Assistant Manager (Burnet)

Hope Family Thrift Store supports the Austin Disaster Relief Network in providing for the needs of disaster survivors affected by fire, flood, tornado, and severe weather events. The store supports the efforts of ADRN through both direct donations to our survivors, as well as giving all net proceeds from the store to ADRN to help fund additional survivor needs. Hope Family Thrift Store is a faith based ministry, and as such, Assistant Store Manager applicants must have a strong and mature Christian spiritual background. Responsibilities for this position will include, but are not limited to the following:


  • Leading a brief morning devotional and prayer time that occurs each day prior to the store opening
    Cash management to include petty cash, breaking down large bills, refunds, balancing cash drawers, and preparing and making daily cash deposits
    Monitoring the store to assist clientele with needs, promote sales, and to build rapport and goodwill with our shoppers
    Responsible for opening/closing procedures for the store, along with day end shut down of the building and arming of all alarm systems as needed
    Assisting with loss prevention to include training of staff, and debriefing staff when incidents are known to have occurred
    Responsible for assisting the store manager with ensuring that all staff are complying with company policies and procedures
    Confer with the Store Manager on any daily staff issues, conflicts, or concerns
    Working closely with the Store Manager and the Area Director to review store practices, monthly budgets and progress, ideas for improvement, etc
    Attending all mandatory meetings set by the Area Director or the Executive Director
    Having a willing heart to jump in and help in any area that is necessary to help the store run smoothly on any given day
    Must be able to work Saturdays and Federal Holidays, and be agreeable to split days off to include Sunday and one day during the week

  • Extensive knowledge of the merchandise sold.
  • Ability to anticipate customer’s needs.
  • Ability to recommend merchandise to customers.
  • Ability to operate or to quickly learn the store’s point-of-sale system.
  • Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous retail experience preferred.
  • On-the-job training provided.
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout the retail space.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
